Rare Aethelred II 'Svertingr at Norwich' Long Cross Penny
Silver, 1.66 grams, 19.68 mm. Long Cross Type; 997-1003 AD. Obverse: profile bust left with +AEDELRED REX ANGLOX legend. Reverse: long voided cross dividing +SPERTINC M-O NORD (the Os with pellet centres) for the moneyer Svertingr at the mint of Norwich. S. 1151; N. 774. Ex Lockdales Sale, lot 526. Near very fine with slight pitting to surfaces. Only one example of this Moneyer recorded with the Early Medieval Corpus at the Fitzwilliam Museum.
