Silver, 0.51 grams, 10.47 mm radius. First Hand Type; 979-985 AD. Obverse: profile bust right without sceptre and part legend ]DELR[ from AEDELRED. Reverse: Hand of Providence descending from clouds with A to left (and W to right) and with part legend ]RD.ON[ for a moneyer name ending -RTH at an uncertain mint. S. 1144; N. 766; BMC IIa. A large fragment of a cut halfpenny but a scarce type.
