Silver, 1.29 grams, 20.42 mm. Second 'Hand' Type; 985-991 AD. Obverse: profile bust with secptre and legend +AEDELREDREXANGLOR. Reverse: second 'hand' with 'A' to left and 'W' to right and pellets below with legend +BYRHSIGEM-OL[VN]D for the moneyer Byrhsige at the mint of London. S. 1146; N. 768 (as Fig. 3). Only two coins Aethelred coins of this moneyer, including only a single cut half of this type recorded with the Medieval Coin Corpus (EMC) at the Fitzwilliam Museum: Coin Register from British Numismatic Journal 67 (1997), no. 138. Edge chipped, otherwise very fine.
