Extremely Rare Alfred The Great 'Wynbeorht' Two Line Penny
Silver, 1.32 grams, 20.18 mm. Third Coinage; 880-899 AD. Obverse: small cross within a large inner circle with +ELFRED RE legend. Reverse: moneyer name in two lines reading Wynbeorht (PYNBEARHT) with pellet above, pellet between, and a line of three pellets below; ending with an unusual MO monogram. Reference: S. 1067. Edge chipped and cracked but stable, otherwise a good strike and in good very fine. No coins struck by this moneyer recorded on the Early Medieval Coin Corpus (EMC) at the Fitzwilliam Museum.
