At the height of its power, the Muslim Empire comprised a great number of quite disparate traditions. As a result little aesthetic or stylistic unity is evident in Islamic decorative arts from these early years. Early Medieval Islamic pottery was under influence of ceramics from the Chinese Tang dynasty.

Ceramic, 65.35 grams, 87.43 mm. Circa 7th-10th century AD, Judaea-Palestine. An excellent 'slipper' type lamp detailed with geometric and chevron style patterns with small handle. Very fine condition, complete without repairs. Provenance: from an old English collection.
