Rare Anglo-Saxon 'Class A Type 1 Trewhiddle Style' Strap End Fragment
Silver, 0.73 grams, 16.64 mm. Circa 9th century AD. A cast silver fragment of a probable strap end, rectangular in plan, bearing Trewhiddle Style animal decoration within notched borders. The beast features inlaid niello detailing and is reserved against a niello background in the field. Reference: Thomas, G. Late Anglo-Saxon and Viking-Age Strap Ends 750-1100 - Part 1, Finds Research Group Datasheet 32, 2003. Fine condition, corner detatched. Provenance: found West Lindsey, Yorkshire and reported under the Treasure Act; disclaimed. PAS and TVC references: SWYOR-FFAAF8 2010 T677. Supporting documentation included.
