Anglo-Saxon 'Class B5' Strap End
Copper-alloy and niello, 14.91 grams, 70.86 mm. Circa 8th-9th century AD. A large, cast strap end with convex sides, banded collar, zoomorphic terminal and broad decorative face. The upper end is pierced twice and one rivet is still in place. The decoration comprised four panels of silver wire spirals and inlaid niello, of which traces remain. Reference: Thomas, G.
