Anglo-Saxon 'Five Spirals' Saucer Brooch
Copper-alloy and gilt, 15.05 grams, 28.42 mm. 5th-6th century AD. A fine example of a Saxon saucer brooch, its chip-carved central plate decorated with a central ring-and-dot surrounded by a series of five running spirals within a raised border. The everted rim is substantially complete. The catchplate is in place on the reverse; the pin-lug is enveloped in the remains of the iron pin. reference: cf. six-spiral brooches in MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E.
