Silver, 3.87 grams, 35.39 mm. Circa 9th century AD. The lower edge of this piece bears the standard zoomorphic head design, executed as a v-shaped incision to emphasise the snout below a brow-ridge and two stylized ears. The outer edges are decorated with billeted zones enclosing a field of foliate vinescroll detail. Two rounded lobes on the upper edge are pierced by rivet-holes. The piece is complete with good definition to the surface details. Reference: Smith, R.A.
