Anglo-Saxon 'Human Mask' Mount
Copper-alloy, 2.80 grams, 20.79 mm. 5th-7th century AD. A small decorative mount in the form of a human mask flanked by lobed projections, pierced to accept attachment rivets. On the reverse is a pierced lug. The face recalls the forms of human mask encountered on some classes of bow-brooch such as the great square-headed brooch. Reference: Hines, J.
