Rare Anglo-Saxon'Inscribed Cross' Silver Pendant
Silver, 4.43 grams, 30.63 mm. Circa 10th century AD. A beautiful silver cross consisting of a large central disc with four arms branching out each terminating with a spherical finial; the lower arm is slightly longer than the others. The central field is inscribed with ‘AG’ on one side and ‘LA’ on the other, in neat seriffed Roman capitals. The large, cast suspension loop is attached to the top of the upper finial. Reference: Benet’s Artefacts of England & the United Kingdom, p.273. Very fine condition. Ex old English collection, found in the 1970's.
