Anglo-Saxon 'Lateral Winged' Cruciform Brooch
Copper-alloy, 21.00 grams, 85.63 mm. 5th-6th century AD. The brooch features a cast-on top- knobs, executed in the round, with rounded collar detailing. The plain headplate is flanked by two lateral rectangular wings with vertical incised linear detailing. A deep bow with faceting at the top extends to the restored footplate which is decorated with a shallow collar above a terminal in the form of a beast’s head with prominent eyes and nostrils.
