Anglo-Saxon 'Running Spiral' Saucer Brooch
Copper-alloy, 6.20 grams, 25.36 mm. 5th-6th century AD. The central section of a saucer brooch containing a series of five running spirals around a pentagon with a roundel at its centre. The outer rim, which was cast as a thin flange of bronze, was lost in antiquity. The catchplate and spring lug are in place on the reverse. Reference: MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E.
