Anglo-Saxon 'Running Spirals' Saucer Brooch
Copper-alloy, 8.61 grams, 27.30 mm. 5th-6th century AD. A standard Saxon disc brooch with a deep rim and central decorative plate, bearing a design of five running spirals around a central annulet within a pentagonal panel. The catchplate is partly present on the reverse and the pin-lug is encased in mineralised iron from the pin. Reference: MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E. Provenance: from an old English collection.
