Anglo-Saxon 'Salin’s Style II' Pelta Mount
Gilded copper-alloy, 1.48 grams, 19.47 mm. Early 7th century AD. The flared trapezoidal mount features linear zoomorphic decoration in Salin’s Style II within a ribbed border. Pelta mounts are characteristic if late 6th and early 7th bridle furniture, for example the finds from Mound 17 (the horse-and-rider burial) at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk. Reference: Carver, M. Sutton Hoo.
