Anglo-Saxon 'Segmented' Pair of Annular Brooches
Copper-alloy, 15.84 grams, 54.44 mm / 12.61 grams, 56.37 mm. 5th-6th century. A fine pair of early Anglian annular brooches; one has the copper-alloy pin still intact, while on the other the iron pin has corroded except where it is attached to the band. The brooches both feature series of punched dot decoration along the inner and outer edges of the ring, with transverse lines of punched dots across the band to form a segmented effect. The brooch with the pin intact has a single ring-and-dot roundel incised next to the pin’s slot. Reference: MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E.
