Anglo-Saxon 'Triangular-Eared' Zoomorphic Strap End
Copper-alloy, 8.37 grams, 35.77 mm. 8th century AD. A single-piece strap end split along the length to accommodate a strap or narrow belt. The cast rectangular body extends to a zoomorphic head withtriangular ears folded back along the edges, with bulbous eyes and gaping mouth influenced by contemporary manuscript illustration styles.
