Copper-alloy, 8.17 grams, 32.99 mm. 10th-11th century AD. A cast tongue-shaped strap end with a band of Winchester Style raised foliate decoration within raised borders. The piercings in the thin attachment plate are visible. Reference: cf. bronze strap end from Ixworth (Suffolk) in Backhouse, J., Turner, D.H. & Webster, L. The Golden Age of Anglo-Saxon Art: 966-1066, London, 1984 item 80. Fine condition. Provenance: property of a London gentleman.
