Extremely Rare Anglo-Scandinavian / Viking 'Class A' Stirrup Mount
Copper-alloy, 18.67 grams, 42.76 mm. 11th century AD. A cast stirrup mount of triangular profile with three billeted panels on the flat outer surface. At the lower corners are placed two inverted animal-heads with loop ears. The surface is pierced twice at the lower edge; the upper loop was lost in antiquity, causing the owner to have a replacement hole drilled below the fracture. The rear ledge is complete.
