Scarce Arcadius 'Roma' Siliqua Hoard Coin
Silver, 1.51 grams, 15.68mm. Trier. 392-395 AD. Obverse: DN ARCAPI-VS PF AVG (sic), pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: VIRTVS RO-MANORVM, Roma seated left on cuirass, holding Victory on globe and inverted spear. Mintmark TRPS in exergue. RIC IX Trier 106c; Sear (1988) 4227. Note: RIC lists this obverse legend as a known type. This engraver's error passed unnoticed in ancient Trier. Extremely fine. Provenance: from the Filey, Yorkshire Hoard, 2009 (disclaimed under Treasure Act, 1996, reference 2009:T286). With the British Museum annotated coin envelope and a copy of the BM disclaiming letter dated 10th September 2009. A significant coin which has been published on wildwinds.com
