Baltic Viking 'Ropework' Finger Ring
Copper-alloy, 5.46 grams, 23.55 mm diameter. Circa 11th-12th century AD. An expanding finger ring comprising two round-section rods forming the hoop rising to the bezel formed as an elliptical panel with cast ropework border and transverse bands of ropework with dot-in-triangle punchmarks in the upper and lower zones. Viking fashions continued in the eastern Baltic after the Viking period ended in western Europe and Scandinavia. Reference: Griciuviene, E. Ziemgaliai - The Semigalians, Riga, 2005 p.188.
