Rare Billy and Charley 'Medieval' Arm and Key Heraldic Pendant
Lead alloy, 70 grams, 90 mm. 19th century AD. A lead badge with pelleted suspension loop. Obv: a radiate crowned facing bust with transverse sword with pseudo-legend and spurious date 1301. Rev: mailed fist holding key with pseudo-legend. Sometimes known as the Shadwell Dock forgeries, these badges, with other articles, were the subject of much debate in the 19th century. Learned antiquaries of the day were fooled.
