Rare Billy and Charley 'Medieval' Knight and Bust Heraldic Pendant
Lead alloy, 50 grams, 85 mm. 19th century AD. A lead badge with ropework suspension loop. Obv: a bearded facing bust encircled by pseudo-legend and spurious date 1320. Rev: standing mailed figure holding sceptre and sword with pseudo-legend. Sometimes known as the Shadwell Dock forgeries, these badges, with other articles, were the subject of much debate in the 19th century. Learned antiquaries of the day were fooled.
