British Celtic 'Collared Barbell' Toggle Fastener
Copper-alloy, 8.10 grams, 22.34 mm. Circa 1st century BC-1st century AD. A cast fitting in the form of a round-section bar with bulbous terminals on pronounced collars. Such fittings were used as toggles to fasten garments, passing through a slit or loop. Reference: cf. looped variants in Murawski, P. Benet's Artefacts of England and the United Kingdom, Ely, 2003 p.82-3. Fine condition, complete. Provenance: found Hampshire, England.
