British Mesolithic 'Asymmetrical Flint' Axe
Flint, 640 grams, 145 mm long. Circa 12,000-6,000 BC. A heavy knapped axe-cleaver formed on a nodule with cortex present in a patinated pale grey-white flint. The roughly rounded cutting end showing crushing from use. Reference: Susann Palmer Mesolithic Cultures of Britain for similar examples. Fine and interesting. Provenance: found 1954 at Long Down, West Sussex with inked 'LONG DOWN JUNE 1954 (M. M.)' inscription.
