British Mesolithic 'Nodular Flint' Axe
Flint, 375 grams, 175 mm long. Circa 12,000-6,000 BC. A substantial axe, formed from a nodule with cortex present, in a blue-white patinated dark grey flint. The original nodule with sponge inclusion resulting on unusual shape of this implement. Reference: Susann Palmer Mesolithic Cultures of Britain for similar examples. Good fine, with small chip to cutting edge. Provenance: with an old collector label inked '58 G. Graves' so found 1958 in the vicinity of Grimes Graves, Norfolk.
