Bronze Age Luristan 'Ribbed' Dirk
Copper-alloy, 270 grams, 40 cm. Circa 2nd millennium BC. A cast copper-alloy dirk or long dagger with thick median rib and penannular extensions at the top of the blade. The pommel is curved and the hilt has open cells to the outer faces to be filled with plates of organic material. Reference: cf. Khorasani, M.M. Arms and Armour from Iran. The Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period, Tubingen, 2006 fig.6. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
