Bronze Age Luristan 'Ribbed' Sword Blade
Copper-alloy, 465 grams, 57.5 cm. Circa 2nd millennium BC. A cast copper-alloy short sword blade; long, tapering blade and short chisel-ended tang. The blade is strengthened by a thick median rib extending from the tang to the tip. The shoulders are swept back and augmented by lateral flanges. Reference: cf. cast bronze spearheads in Muscarella, O.W. Bronze and Iron. Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1988 item 164-5. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
