| Georgian 'Rococo' Figural Seal 018426 | Georgian 'Rococo' Figural Seal Copper-alloy and glass, 5.71 grams, 30.60 mm. Circa 1850 AD. A red glass intaglio set into a delicate rococo frame for use as a seal. The bronzework is a good example of Georgian style, its gentle curves imitating natural forms. The motif of the seal is a male figure in classical drapery, with a sabre in his raised right hand and a severed head in his left. The legend depicted possibly represents the decapitation of Medusa which is the culmination of the tale of Perseus, however there are many ancient stories to choose from in which a beheading forms a significant event.
