Byzantine 'Crucifix' Pendant
Copper-alloy, 4.91 grams, 43.00 mm. 4th-9th century AD. A flat cast pendant in the form of a cross with slightly expanding arms. On the front face is a human figure with a halo around the piriform head, outstretched arms and body clothed in a triangular garment. Above the head is a triangular feature surmounted by a small cross, and the integrally-cast suspension loop. The lower edge has been pierced, perhaps for the attachment of a chain and secondary pendant. Reference: cf. pendant crosses in Platonov, M.S. Platar Katalog 2004, Kiev, 2004. Very fine condition.
