Iron Age Celtic 'Enamelled' Toggle Fastener
Copper-alloy and enamel, 10.83 grams, 29.23 mm. Circa 2nd century BC-1st century AD. A cast copper-alloy toggle fastener comprising a square plate, thick shank and open triangular base. The upper face is formed as four cells for champ leve enamel: the design is a saltire with gently curved arms, the enamel alternating red and yellow. Reference: cf. similar toggle fastener with discoid plate from Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, recorded with the PAS under reference DENO-ED2004. Very fine condition. Provenance: found East Anglia, UK.

British Celtic 'Button and Loop' Toggle Fastener
Copper-alloy, 10.15 grams, 32.59 mm. 1st century BC - 1st century AD. A cast clothes fastener formed as a pierced triangular plate with a D-section right-angled extension terminating in a domed disc with convex underside. The triangular plate was sewn to one side of the garment and the disc was pushed through a slit or loop to secure the closure. Reference: cf. the example from York in Smith, R.A. British Museum Guide to Early Iron Age Antiquities, reprinted Ipswich, 1994 p.151 and Murawski, P. Benet's Artefacts of England and the United Kingdom, Ely, 2003 item I13-0204. Very fine condition.
