Iron Age Celtic 'Cotton-Reel' Dress Toggle
Bronze, 12.84 grams, 20.69 mm. 2nd century BC-1st century AD. A cast bronze cotton-reel clothes toggle. Fine condition. Provenance: from a private UK collection, by descent from the vendor's father, who formed his collection in the 1970s-1980s. Part of this collection was previously sold at Bonham's Antiquities sale 17855, 6 October 2010, Lot 199.

Celtic Iron Age 'Hallstatt Style' Belt Fastener 026148

Rare Celtic Iron Age 'Hallstatt Style' Belt Fastener
Copper-alloy, 161 grams, 220 mm including stand. 8th-6th century BC. A cast belt fitting with articulated loop. The main body of the strap is provided with lateral flanges and a central carinated ridge. The outer end is coiled over the rear bar of a hollow-cast belt-loop with notched detailing to the outer face. At the outer end the strap is provided with incised hatching to the coiled element, geometric punched-point motifs and three discoid studs, each with ring-and-dot ornament. There are two smaller rivets at the inner end. Reference: cf. detailed belt plate suite from Singen am Hohentwiel in Mueller, F. Art of the Celts, Stuttgart, 2009 item 6.1. Very fine condition with a custom-made display stand. Provenance: property of a gentleman, acquired in the 1970s-1980s and thence by descent.

Copper-alloy, 38.85 grams, 69.27 mm including stand. 2nd century BC-1st century AD. A cast bronze fastener formed as two loops with comma-shaped bulbs to the centre and outer edges. To the reverse there is a sturdy right-angled lug to accept a securing loop. Reference: cf. Smith, R.A. British Museum Guide to Early Iron Age Antiquities, reprinted Ipswich, 1994 item 177. Very fine condition, complete and with a custom-made display stand. Provenance: from an old English collection, Essex, UK; found Norfolk, UK, in 1999.
