Very Rare Charles I 'Rosette 1644' Oxford Mint Halfcrown
Silver, 14.97 grams, 36.03 mm. Civil War Coinage, 1625-1649. Obverse: CAROLVS:D:G:MAG:BR:FR:ET:HIB:REX (Charles by the grace of God King of Great Britain France and Ireland) king on horseback left with upright sword, grassy, rocky or uneven ground below, Oxford plume above, 'rosette' mintmark. Reverse: EXVRGAT:DEVS:DISSIPENTVR:INIMICI (Let God arise and his enemies be scattered) around the declaration in two lines RELIG:PROT:LE / ANG:LIBER:PAR (The religion of the Protestants the laws of England the liberty of Parliament), three Oxford plumes above, central one largest; 1644 date and small ox below.
