Charles I 'CARA' Royal Farthing
Copper, 0.64 grams; 17.10 mm. 1b. CARA type, Mintmark Lis on obverse. Probably manufactured locally where found near Castle Acre, Norfolk. Obverse Good Very Fine, Reverse a light strike, but traces of the harp and legend are just visible. S. 3182. Contemporary copy manufactured by the Parliamentarians. The significance of CARA in place of CARO is that it is a girl’s name and hence an insult to the King.
