Stunning Series E Variant 'Porcupine' Sceatta
Silver, 1.17 grams; 11.98 mm. Circa 695-740 AD. Obverse: Stylized porcupine figure; high arched back with radiating spikes and three legs in arch with trefoil of pellets. Reverse: Standard enclosing lines and pellets around a double annulet in centre. Recorded with the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge University as: EMC 2008.0441. M 209-211; S 786A. A stunning example in good extremely fine. Found South Ockendon, Essex.
