Edward IV 'Canterbury Mint' Halfgroat 001219
Excessively Rare Edward IV 'Canterbury Mint' Halfgroat
Silver, 0.94 grams; 18.79 mm. Second Reign, mm uncertain, probably rose; 1471-1483 AD. Contemporary Forgery. Obverse: facing bust in tressure of nine arcs with reversed ‘C’ on neck. Reverse: long cross dividing inner legend CIVI TAS CAN TOR with reversed ‘S’ in TAS. The appearance of reversed letters on coins of this series is most unusual and this may be a coin struck from unofficial dies, although the general style of bust and lettering is good. S. 2106; N.1637-1639. Very fine for issue.
