Egyptian 'Polychrome' Bead Mask
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 49.43 grams, 17 cm. Late Period, Ptolemaic (circa 500-300 BC). A restrung funerary mask from a mummy composed of glazed beads, each about 3 mm diameter and 1.5 mm thick. The edges are formed as hollow triangles in turquoise and olive green tubular beads. The face is made in coral pink beads, the mouth, eyes and nose in pale copper tones and the eye and eyebrow details in black. The beard is striped. Reference: cf. Bonhams Antiquities London sales catalogue, 28th April 2010, pp.38-9. Extremely fine condition. Provenance: from an old French collection, with a copy of the French export permit.
