Egyptian 'Bes' Bifacial Amulet
Faience, 0.51 grams, 13.98 mm. New Kingdom, Eighteenth dynasty, 1500-1292 BC. A pale green amulet of Bes, the dwarf god with his stunted, bandy legs and bulbous head. Bes was favoured by women and children. Made with a transverse piercing for suspension. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, pl.27. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
