Egyptian 'Bes' Amulet
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 0.38 grams, 10.83 mm. Saite Period 664-525 BC. A deep blue-green amulet depicting Bes, with his pot belly and bow legs, wearing a plumed headdress. This form of amulet was worn mostly by women and children. Made with a transverse piercing for suspension. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.37. Very fine condition.
