Egyptian 'Djed Pillar' Amuletic Bead
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 0.10 grams, 7.44 mm. New Kingdom, 1550-1070 BC. A deep green amulet depicting the djed pillar which began as an architectural feature from the Hebsed court at Saqqara. Possession of the amulet guaranteed that the spirit would be worthy and present in the realm of the dead with Osiris. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.82-3.
