Egyptian 'Osiris' Statuette
Copper-alloy, 75 grams, 89.21 mm. Late Period circa 664-525 BC. Cast bronzes of the gods are a Late Period development. Here Osiris wears the atef crown and carries the symbolic crook and flail, attributes which he inherited after ousting the previous god, Andjety. The amulet has a cast suspension ring behind the shoulders and another at the right ankle. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.47. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
