Egyptian 'Polished' Obsidian and Limestone Eye Inlay Pair
Obsidian and limestone, 33 grams, 43-45 mm. Middle Kingdom, 1963-1650 BC. A fine pair of obsidian and limestone eye inlays, each formed from a highly polished obsidian disc fitted into the polished limestone sclera. Very fine condition. Provenance: from the Foxwell family collection; Mr H G and Miss E Foxwell purchased their collection from the late 1890s until the early 1920s, acquiring from the Forman collection (sold by Sotheby’s in 1900) and the Mc Gregor collection (sold by Sotheby's in 1922) and the Clements collection in 1923 and thence by descent.
