Faience, 0.44 grams, 12.08 mm. Ptolemaic Period, 305-30 BC. A turquoise amulet depicting the aviform female sphinx with wings held parallel to the recumbent body. Made with a transverse piercing for suspension. Reference: Flinders Petrie, W.M. Amulets Illustrated by the Egyptian Collection in University College, London, London, reprinted 1994, p.40 class 185. Provenance: from an old English collection. Very fine condition.
