Egyptian 'Shu' Amulet
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 2.07 grams, 23.59 mm. Saite 26th Dynasty, circa 664-525 BC. A deep blue amulet featuring Shu, kneeling with arms upraised supporting a sun-disc above. Shu was responsible for raising Nut, the sun, and supporting her in the air. Made with a transverse piercing for suspension. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.19. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
