Egyptian 'Wadj Pillar' Necklace
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 7.96 grams, 45 cm. Mainly Late Period, 664-343 BC. A restrung necklace of tubular turquoise beads with blue and yellow beads between and dark blue and yellow beads at the ends. The central pendant is an amulet of the wadj pillar, a papyrus staff which assured the wearer of rejuvenation according to the rites recorded in the Book of the Dead. Reference: Andrews, C.
