Egyptian 'Wedjat Eye' Bifacial Amulet
Faience, 0.24 grams, 10.17 mm. 11th-10th century BC. 3rd Intermediate Period (21st-25th Dynasties). The wedjat is the symbolic eye of the god, Horus, son of Osiris and the creator deity; the god's eyes are associated with the sun and moon. The piece is in two-tone faience, beige-brown pupils on a creamy-white surface, with symmetrically placed design on the reverse and transverse piercing. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.44 and pl.46. Extremely fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
