Egyptian 'Wedjat Eye' Bifacial Amulet
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 0.23 grams, 9.61 mm. 11th-10th century BC. 3rd Intermediate Period (21st-25th Dynasties). The wedjat is the symbolic eye of the god, Horus, son of Osiris and the creator deity; the god's eyes are associated with the sun and moon. The piece is in deep blue- green faience, with incised black detail to the brow, and transverse piercing. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.44. Very fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
