Egyptian 'Wedjat Eye' Third Intermediate Period Amulet
Glazed powdered quartz composite (faience), 0.31 grams, 12.15 mm. 11th-10th century BC. 3rd Intermediate Period (21st-25th Dynasties). The wedjat is the symbolic eye of the god, Horus, son of Osiris and the creator deity; the god's eyes are associated with the sun and moon. The piece is in two-tone faience, brown pupil, eye-outline and brow on a pale blue-green surface, with transverse piercing. Reference: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.44.
