Egyptian 'Zad' Amulet
Faience, 0.69 grams, 16.29 mm. Old Kingdom 6th Dynasty, 2345-2181 BC. A dark green amulet with yellow glazed detailing representing the zad or pillars which support the vault of heaven. Made with a transverse piercing for suspension. Reference: Flinders Petrie, W.M. Amulets Illustrated by the Egyptian Collection in University College, London, London, reprinted 1994, p.15 class 35.
