Post-Medieval 'Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes' Presentation Medallion and Case
Silver, 107 grams, 16 cm including case. Dated 1937. An award medallion, ribbon and pin in its original presentation case. The medallion bears a heater shield with monogram 'CP' in white and red enamel, surrounded by a blue-enamelled band 'JUSTICE TRUTH PHILANTHROPY' and outer wreath, surmounted by a crown with red enamel detailing. The ribbon is in dark blue with RAOB (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes) monogram over GLE (Grand Lodge of England), above a buffalo's horns and cap with blue enamelled scroll '*PRIMO*'; to the lower edge is a bar with 'PRIDE OF DINNINGTON LODGE NO. 4176'. To the reverse of the medallion are silver hallmarks for Birmingham and 'C.U' maker's mark. The reverse is inscribed in capitals 'Presented to Clifford Tagg C.I. by the Pride of Dinnington Lodge no.4176 Raised on the 8 Aug.1937'. The lid of the case with silk lining is marked 'Manufactured for the R.A.O.B. G.L.E. by The usher Manufacturing Co., Jewellers, Silversmiths, Medallists, Vittoria Works, Vittoria Street, Birmingham'. WW II '1939 - 1945' Medal
Copper Alloy, 15.45 grams; 49.92. Obverse reads THE 1939 - 1945 STAR around a crowned central GRI/VI monogram. The 1939-1945 Star is the first in a series of eight campaign stars instituted in 1945 to recognise service in the Second World War. It was awarded for six months service in specified operational areas. Those whose service was shortened by death, injury or capture or who were awarded a decoration or mention in despatches also qualified for the medal. Very fine condition.
