Gold plated, 0.74 grams, 10.73 mm. Circa 600-675 AD, an English imitation of a continental Tremisses. Obverse: crude bust with vestigial legend. Reverse: cross with illiterate legend. S. -; N. -: see EMC 1998.0087 (this coin), found England. About as made, extremely rare. This coin appears to be an English made copy of a continental tremissis with heavy gold plating over an uncertain base core. Local copies of sceattas are well known but such are extremely unusual in the gold series. An interesting piece, worthy of further research.
